Therapy session prep

Walk into therapy knowing what you want to say.

You do not need a perfect summary of your week. You need a few useful things you do not want to forget.

Why prepare for a therapy session?

Important thoughts often show up between appointments. Writing them down when they happen can make it easier to remember them when the session arrives.

What to write before therapy

  1. What happened? Note the moments that stand out.
  2. What did you feel? Name the feeling as best you can.
  3. What keeps coming back? Look for thoughts or situations that have repeated.
  4. What do you want to understand? Turn vague discomfort into a question.
  5. What do you want from this session? Decide what would make the appointment feel useful to you.

You do not have to cover everything

Preparation is not about creating a report for your therapist. It is about giving yourself a clearer starting point for the conversation.
